I have asked members to promote the group by adding their friends and I have been doing the same. The problem with Facebook groups is instead of asking the permission of the individual, such as Facebook Pages does, it will just put a person into the group automatically.
Now, in my experience, if I don't want to be a part of a group I will just go to the group settings and delete myself. Usually this is in the cases of a group being full of nonsense or things completely opposite to what I believe. Other than that, I make no bones about it.
However, over the last two days men, and only men, have been sending me messages asking me to remove them from the group. A couple of them going as far as saying, "You have never said a word to me so why would you want me to be a part of your group."
At first, I explained that I was adding those from my friend's list and didn't mean to offend. However, after so many messages I now have a major problem with this. If you don't want to be a part of the group, that's fine. However, I'm going to need these guys to take the skirt off for these reasons:
First off, these same people sent ME a friend request and have never spoken to me. I don't take it personally. I have close to 4,000 people on my friend's list and unless they have reached out to me or done something that catches my attention, it's quite easy for them to fly under the radar. As much as I would like to, I don't get to speak to everyone.
Secondly, it takes more time to send me a message for deletion than it does to go in the group, go to group settings and hit "Leave Group". Why am I doing this for you when you are capable of doing it yourself quite simply.
Thirdly, I placed these same people in another group which allows them to freely promote their books, music and such. I got NO messages to be deleted. So that tells me, something that benefits you is okay to be a part of, but having open conversations without judgment with people of all races, religions, and backgrounds so that we can see that we aren't that different is blasphemy???
I mean, really dude, delete yourself. Stop sending me messages because I honestly believe it's just a ploy to see if I will respond. Also, it tells me about your character:
- You would send me a friend request but you don't want be a part of a group that MY FRIENDS are a part of.
- You don't want to support something that's NOT complete nonsense, sexually driven or promotion of yourself.
- You take something as silly as placing you into a group as disrespect.
Don't get me wrong. Like I said, it's perfectly okay if you DO NOT want to be a part of the IMRD group. I just think the way these guys are going about things is ridiculous. I mean, really dude, take the skirt off.
Do you think I'm wrong for saying this or justified? Tell me your thoughts. We would love to hear from you.
