Is Hip Hop In Or Out Of Control

IMRD posted a new page the other day with the conversations that have stemmed from and the responses to Kendrick Lamar's verse from the song Control. It's been a very long a tiring process due to everyone coming out of the wood work.

Like we stated before, Kendrick's verse has done wonders for hip hop. It actually got people talking about it in a way that I have not seen since the 1990's. For over a decade, hip hop has been in and out of comas and has been in desperate need of resuscitation.

It's incredible, really.

All it took was one guy stepping out of the pack and throwing down the gauntlet. Kendrick has challenged artists to stop being so gimmicky and put their focus into the bars. Hopefully, more cool verses will continue to surface, but more than that the hope is that it transfers over to good music.

As the freestyles come in, we will continue to add them to the list. I mean, really dude, people are popping up from no where.

An Adrenaline Rush For Hip-Hop

Last Tuesday night the verse that would send ripples through hip-hop was unleashed. At least, that's when I was made aware of it.

On the new song Control by Big Sean featuring Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electron, the shot heard 'round the world was heard. Kendrick Lamar went in during his verse; it was so vicious the lyrics were posted throughout social media instantly.

Kendrick called himself the king of New York, which is weird considering Mr. Lamar is from Compton. Homage was paid to Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem and Andre 3000. He then singled out J Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Tyler, Mac Miller, Big Sean and Jay Electron. I mean, really dude, he actually said he would make sure their core fans never heard of them.

The hashtags #TwitPicYourReactionAfterHearingKendricksVerse and #RappersKendrickDidntMention began trending on Twitter.

This verse sent shock-waves through hip-hop. The named artists didn't seem too shaken by what was said and took Kendrick up on his challenge. However, those who were not mentioned sounded off with their own verses in response. Also, many in hip-hop conversed about their thoughts on the matter.

IMRD will be putting a page up to keep track for you dudes. Artists such as Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B., Joe Budden and Allyssa Marie have put some of their best lines on the table. There have also been those who haven't been on the rap scene in many moons and those who I have never heard of (not saying they aren't known, I just pay little attention to some of today's rap/hip-hop artists).

I mean, really dude, this is what hip-hop needed - a swift kick in the pants.
